Behavioral Supervision: Focusing on Fidelity and Performance Feedback

Shawn P. Quigley, PhD, BCBA-D, CDE
Helena Maguire, MS, LABA, BCBA, CDE
Organizations exist to accomplish a mission. Defining the mission, creating service delivery systems, and measuring performance of the systems allows organizational leadership to measure progress toward achieving the mission. A key component of organizational mission success is the employees conducting the work supportive of the mission. Behavioral supervision is a science-based approach for employees to learn, exhibit, and maintain mission focused behaviors. A key skill for supervisors is the identification of performance indicators and to provide feedback to employees about their performance. Feedback may be difficult generally and become more complicated if an employee is not pleased with the feedback provided (e.g., arguments about the feedback). During this workshop attendees will review a behavioral supervision framework (e.g., Luiselli et al., 2021; Maguire et al., 2022; Parsons et al., 2012) and how it supports ethical decision making (e.g., Pollard et al., 2021). Attendees will also learn a process for delivering feedback and practice the skills.
